Yating Chen (B.S. Geographic Information System, China Agricultural University) is a visiting Ph.D. student from China Agricultural University (CAU), researching multi-scale problems of land use datasets. She is now a second year Ph.D. candidate of Agricultural Information Technology at CAU, Beijing; she is supervised by Professor Dehai Zhu (affiliate of the Institute of Geographic Information Technology at CAU).
Chen’s research area is information technology in land use management. She has been a leading member of a research project dealing with data acquisition, the processing and management of land use surveys, land use planning, and land consolidation, publishing four articles on this research. Chen was invited to Feng Chia University, Taiwan, as a visiting scholar in 2009.
Sponsored by the China Scholarship Council, and hosted by Mike Goodchild, Chen is visiting the Center for Spatial Studies at UCSB for a one-year period, holding office space at 3512 Phelps Hall.
