Dr. Xiaohua Tong, (B.S., Land Survey and Management, Tongji University; M.S., Engineering Survey, Tongji University; Ph.D., GIS-T, Tongji University) is a Professor in GIS and remote sensing, and associate head of the Department of Surveying and Geo-Informatics at Tongji University, China.
Tong worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the State Key Laboratory of Information Engineering in Surveying, Mapping, and Remote Sensing, Wuhan University, China between 2001 and 2003; he was a research fellow in The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2006, and a visiting scholar in the University of California, Santa Barbara between 2008 and 2009. His current research interests include GIS, remote sensing, uncertainty and spatial data quality, image processing for high resolution satellite images. He has published more than 80 research articles.
He received the State Natural Science Award (Second class) from the State Council of the Peoples’ Republic of China in 2007; Distinguished Young Scholar from Shanghai Education Committee in 2007; Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award (Second Class) from Shanghai Municipal Government in 2006; New Century Excellent Talents in Universities from Ministry of Education of China in 2006; Chinese Science and Technology Progress Award in Surveying and Mapping (First Class) in 2005; Shanghai Young Rising-Star in Science and Technology from Shanghai Science and Technology Committee in 2005.
He is a Council Member of Chinese Association of Geographical Information Systems, and served as the Vice President for Commission of Cartography and Geographical Information System, China Society of Surveying and Mapping, Vice President for Commission of Geographical Information System Education, Chinese Association of Geographical Information Systems, Vice President of Commission of Standardization and Quality Control, Chinese Association of Geographical Information Systems.
