Michel Zimmer is an undergraduate student from the University of Bremen, Germany, where he studies Digital Media. In addition to pursuing his studies, Zimmer has been working as a freelancer programming various websites and contributing to open source software projects. The focus of his internship at the Center for Spatial Studies is programming a Python API for the core concept “Networks,” which was defined by Werner Kuhn in Haskell. The Python API makes it possible to query geographic data using a general API without the need of actually knowing GIS software such as QGIS, ArcGIS, etc.
He is the vice chairman of Erstes Lesumer Fernsehen (ELF) e.V., which is a youth-media club in his hometown, Bremen, and he can be seen playing with the UCSB Ultimate Frisbee team.
