Miguel Gómez, collaborated with Professor Stuart Sweeney in the Department of Geography at UCSB in the project “Intra-urban industrial location under institutional and accessibility constraints.” The goal of this project was to analyze and separate the factors that explain the location decision of an industrial establishment. Controlling by different covariates (e.g., the distance of a specific location to a road, the historical location, or the specific kind of industry), the project attempted to identify the existence of spatial interaction or clusters. Further, the project checked to see if the results were consistently maintained once the zoning map, in which industries can locate, was considered. This analysis was applied to the Madrid region, which is one of the most important industrial areas in Spain.
