Robert Deacon (Ph.D., University of Washington) is a professor in the Department of Economics with an affiliated appointment in the Bren School. He is a University Fellow, Resources for the Future,and he was appointed as the 2008 Julian Simon Fellow at the Property and Environment Research Center.

His general research focuses on natural resource economics, environmental economics, and political economy. Since 2006 he has been researching the use of property rights systems and cooperative harvesters’ associations to manage fisheries and adapt the conservation easement approach to protect marine habitats. Other recent research projects have examined the effects that different political systems have on the use of natural resources, environmental quality, and the provision of public goods.
