The Center for Spatial Studies seeks to enhance spatial literacy at all levels of education.

Efforts range from direct classroom contact with grade school children in the Santa Barbara region (SCALE) to national-level advanced residential workshops for researchers in the population and health sciences (GISPopSci), training programs in spatial analysis for undergraduate instructors in the social sciences (SPACE), and an interactive web site (TeachSpatial) devoted to building an international community of instructors and researchers who recognize the importance of spatial concepts in student learning across a broad range of knowledge domains.

The Center also coordinates interdisciplinary efforts to develop spatial reasoning and spatial methodologies for undergraduate and graduate programs at UCSB, organizes funding initiatives to support these programs, and monitors courses at UCSB for evidence of spatial reasoning in the sciences, arts, and humanities.

Explore each of these efforts in more detail.
